Don't laugh too hard. DARPA has an existing program for something similar called Transformer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DARPA_TX). Lockheed-Martin is one of the participants (http://www.theverge.com/2013/8/19/4637784/lockheed-martin-building-darpa-transformer-tx-drone-car).
