Manchester 'Future Heathrow of the north' (http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/news/content.cfm?story=339007)

A bit of a twist to the enquiry into capacity and the South East.

160 back in the rainy city.

Aviation looks good for most airports but it is good to see Manchester being pushed as a major link for the future of the U.K in terms of aviation requirements. The London airports will always collectively push more punters through them but unless you are ignorant and hate everything north of London i think Manchester has to be given as much assistance as is possible(without breaking any competition rules)to enhance its position. The NorthWest is the second most populated region in the country, the airport is the 3rd busiest in the U.K and because of its geographical postion it would help to ease the burden of having to travel down to London for a lot of people. That does not mean that it can solve all the problems or that airlines will be queing up by the bucket load to offer flights all round the world.Im sure the U.K would be better off having a better balance of where you can get long haul flights and i realise that people would still have to travel to Manchester but it has got to be a step in the right direction.
