Not being too technical, I am looking for some free [?] easy to use software for simple editing of video.

Any recommendations please?

Which Operating System are you using? W7 has Movie Maker built in which is basic but does what it was designed for.

Try the start menu, All Programs and then Windows Live Movie Maker

I had it on Vista, but can't now find it on Windows H'eight,either.

Maybe one has to buy it, or rent it like Word 365 ?
