hi everyone,my first post on this site.
I am currently restoring an ex raf land rover lightweight from the 70's which was used as a helistart .does anyone have any pictures of these vehicles in service that they could post?

Nato Lightweight Land Rovers were supposed to be much lighter so they could be parchuted out from Aircraft or ferried in by Heli, by the time the Mil had fitted all their stuff to them they weighed just the same as a "Full Fat" Land Rover, ...|I think I may have a picture of one attached to a heli, so I will try over the next few days to find it and post, also has yours a 24Volt gen on it ?

Log chopper - Have you tried the HMVF forum? Seems like there has been an older thread running there about the multitude of variations of military Landrovers.
You could add your question to that thread or start a new one. I'm sure some LR buff there will have what you're looking for.
Posting some precise details such as the age and model of your LR, plus any military specifications off any data plates, will raise the interest level on a HMVF post.

thanks everyone for helping,the LR does indeed have a 24v system also a socket on the rear labelled ground/flight but is missing the work platform and ladder.

The AIX forums are mainly about airfields but do also cover a range of topics, there is an Airfield Vehicles forum and sure I have seen vehicles there that are not strictly airfield ones. ISTR that in 1964 at Odiham we had helistart land rovers, but they didn't have either a platform or steps.

I think you'll find the helistart landrovers just had an external socket that you could connect an aviation jump start cable into.
I used some of the components to modify my own landrover when I was in charge of a REME Fitter Section in the 80's so I could jump start anything from cars to tracked vehicles and helicopters.

I think you may find that the point of these basic vehicles is nothing 'lighteight' but they are 'airportable' in that they are stronger and better able to survive dropping from a great height. This explains several of the differences in construction of the body and suspension.

Most units had a couple of them, we used to use one for Rallying fitted with a full roll cage, light bar and canopy with side windows in.
23 Base workshop used to make the rollcages and canopies for rallying.
There were quite a few on the army rally circuit in BAOR in the 70's and early 80's.
