I'm currently completing a new publication on the DC-3. It's primarily devoted to photos but also includes a potted history, drawings, etc.

I wonder if anyone out there might have any old photos of the DC-3 that would be worth seeing in print? Would be nice to make the content as nostalgic as possible! If anyone can help, do please let me know.

Here's a link to one in my collection-and with a VERY noteable person in the foreground-it's his personal aircraft. Assume you will credit any photos you use in the book: Monty & Tailfin e | Flickr - Photo Sharing! (http://www.flickr.com/photos/48975048@N06/5465124780/in/photolist-9jWccj)

I'd guess I took this in about 1971/72.

Here is a DC-3 that I flew in the late 70s to the early 80s. Its claim to fame was that it was once owned by the Wrigley family of the chewing gum brand. When we bought the aircraft, it was the lowest time still flying DC-3 in the world. Just under 3,000 hours total time.

Last I heard it was sitting somewhere in California, outside and looked in rather sad shape. Shame really.

Just in case there's anyone out there who hasn't seen it already, here's one (G-AMRA) I used to fly for Sammy Morton in the late 'Sixties with the likes of Bill Caldwell (old enough easily to be my grandfather) and Jo Rechka, who had once regained his freedom at the controls of a Dak (and later flew for Intra). I never carried a camera in those days...

The footage is in chunks, but starts at about 10:15.

That aircraft has quite a history and eventually ended up with Air Niugini. It now stands on posts outside Air Niugini house Port Moresby.

I was going to say, Photoshop me out, but I'd forgotten how little there was of the aircraft. Still, detailed shots like this can be of use sometimes.

It was taken by a very young Paul Burton at EDI

Tried this one on another forum to ask whether anyone knew what it was like to fly.
a) what was the effect on turning performance?
b) what was the effect on the DC3's less-than-stellar engine out performance?

Answer was there none.

My guess is that the engine-out stabilising height would be measured in fathoms.

Some Info Here: DC-1,DC-2,DC-3,C-47,Dakota Aircraft (http://www.dc3history.org/floats.htm)

Sounds like it was not easy to fly.
