Casually watching flight radar sitting in a Perth pub and noticed QF1 suddenly turned south from its flightpath while over Western Australia. She flew south then west out over the ocean (?dump fuel), then flew over my head to land safely. She came over almost silently.

I have video but cannot post attachments. If anyone wants it, PM me.

Can anyone find out reason for divert?

QF1 just diverted to PER. Just landed on 03 safely. Flew right overhead just now. Anyone know why diverted? Think she dumped fuel prior to land from flightpath.

Maybe this? post 4666 (http://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/520538-really-really-boring-totally-pointless-snippets-information-thread-xxii-234.html#post8156738)
I don't have local times for either post so may well be wrong.
If somebody was ill then Perth sounds sensible as it has well equipped hospitals. I don't have the runway details for Broome or any of the other airports along that coast to hand apart from Truscott which has an enormously long runway but is situated right out in the bush miles from any facilities. From memory all the rest would require an onward flight courtesy of the RFDS. Remember, it is some time since I have been out there so all of this may have changed.

The pilot on comms said they had a crook passenger. They dumped fuel off shore from Yanchep. The situation was notified to Melbourne ATC on a flight path about three quarters the way to Geraldton from Kalgoorlie.
They took off again at 21:35 local (13:35 UTC)

Slight thread hijack, but anyone know what the 4-engine jet flying due West over Bunbury was? Never noticed contrails in this region before, but was around 6.00 pm on Friday 15th Nov, high level, heading out over the ocean.

That was QF1

So if QF1 was SYD-DXB, routing N of Perth, and dumped fule off Yanchep, North of Perth, what was it doing trailing over Bunbury?

Surely there is another web site that caters for 'plane-spotters'.
