A thread to showcase how shows on British television are performing viewership wise. Feel free to ask questions about how ratings work, and if you've got a request as to how a show performed in the ratings, whether it be a Euro/World Cup match, Olympic event, talent show, drama, soap etc on a specific date even, leave it here and I'll try and acquire the rating if possible.

Here are some of yesterday's ratings:

21:00 - Britain on the Fiddle: 4.82m (20.7%)

People do watch crap, don't they?

As I age, I do find documentaries to be much better than series such as Coro etc.

However, children don't like docu.s, but love the crap stuff.

Can you chuck in Eastenders for comparison ?

Monday: 7.76m (32.0%) (the show's highest rating since April)
Tuesday: 7.39m (34.2%)

It didn't air last night.

As I said - people do watch rubbish.

The people who watch it have delusions of adequacy.

Meanwhile, the final of The Great British Bake-Off a few weeks ago got 8.42m (32.6%). That kind of rating is good in this day and age, but even more impressive considering it's on BBC Two and it's a baking show.

I was reading somewhere recently that the Morecambe & Wise Christmas Shows in the 1970's would attract upwards of 27 million.

I was reading somewhere recently that the Morecambe & Wise Christmas Shows in the 1970's would attract upwards of 27 million.

They would consistently be in the 20 million range. Back then, it was more common for shows to get 20 million viewers due to the fact there were simply less channels. This may interest you, this is a list of the top 30 most watched programmes on UK television (official ratings - those that include recordings/catch-up. Those I posted above were overnight ratings.), on single showings (so not including repeats or a simulcast).

I of course have no idea how the UK obtains those numbers. Over here they have a couple of hundred boxes that
people use to send in what they watch.. However these people are very carefully screened before they are given that
box. I know because I was interviewed once and it seemed to me at that time that I didn't watch the correct ones so I
wasn't invited to join.

Coronation Street: 8.48m (38.1%) / 8.85m (39.8%)

My children are fans of this show back in the UK. Never saw the appeal of these soaps.

Only one I watched on your list was Gogglebox. For those who haven't seen it, it saves you the bother of watching all the crap thats on tv - other people do it for you and you watch them doing it.

Compulsive stuff- I look forward to the posh couple who are permanently pissed as they watch and comment!
