ASN Aircraft accident Hawker Siddeley DH-125-400A XB-MGM Buena vista del Meta, Apure (http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=20131104-0)

There is a thread over on the military forum about this, but thought it needed to be here. Drug running perhaps?

Govt. of Venezuela reports since May 2012 they have shot down 30 aircraft suspected of being involved in the drug trade.

This Hawker 125-731 (ex - 400A) delivered new in 1969 as N217F (ex G-AWPC/N217F/YV-825CP/N272B/N773AA/XB-MGM

Aircraft was registered to Jorge Salazar Ochoa on Oct 31 2013 with aircraft listed as based in Monterrey MMMX Mexico. So Mr. Ochoa had his jet for a whole 5 days!!

The report says :
The airplane was intercepted after illegally entering Venezuelan air space before forced it to land on a remote airstrip.
The occupants fled the scene before Venezuelan forces arrived. They reportedly discovered cocaine on board. The airplane was set afire and burned out.

So It was not "shot down" as the title says.

So It was not "shot down" as the title says.

Well that was the initial speculation. Excuse me for the 'wrong title' nearly three months ago...
