Having said that the article below makes for very interesting reading. It's content in BusinessTraveller is taken mostly from a article written in Bloomberg two days ago - but well highlighted.

You'd have to reduce the seat width (currently 18in) to 17 or less, but even so that only gives you 10in off the other seats.... and you need 7 more for the extra seat. It certainly can't come off the aisle, the cart barely fits down as it is...

Let's not even wonder if this would require an evacuation trial with 11-abreast seating... the average pax in this day and age has trouble getting down the aisle under normal circumstances...

Also please elaborate on where this extra food is supposed to fit, the gamey is crammed as it is and they get 3 services on a ULR flight... Snack bags on the seats maybe, a la QF? Or will we be towing a trailer?

I hope not the aisle is already way too small in places, especially where it tapers round toilets etc.
I hope the Indian accountants don't drive it totally to a low cost product!! Getting that way with the cost cutting I have seen in the last ten years!!:(

If you read the Bloomberg article - it says they would raise the floor.

Another thread on another website said that at current floor setting, the max width would be 16.4". I don't know if there are any carriers out there that have that width. Could they redesign aisle width/carts etc? Unlikely - but remember MOL talked about standing benches on FR. When it comes to efficiency people will do strange things.

A slight floor raise would cover it? It seems like a big redesign project.

Not sure if true - Don't shoot the messenger but I doubt Doric or TC would put it out there if not possible.

It can certainly be done. Just take out the showers and the bar for the extra containers and take out a few inches of insulation and you have the extra space for an additional seat.

But, oops, suddenly the aircraft looks pretty similar to others, the whole hoohaa about superior ride and blah blah is gone.

This is the same person who ten years ago told a HOAM symposium that EK crew will live aboard the A380 as it travels out and back, "like a cruise ship," and that we would prefer this to overnighting in hotels.

Have to agree, I can't see how it could possibly work without a major redesign and even if it did there is a huge risk of upseting the passengers who at the moment seem to prefer the A380 to the alternatives and are apparently even happy to pay a (probably small) premium to fly on it.
