A shame that this was announced at short notice (at least I only picked this up a few days ago) as with a bit of preparation I'm sure Brooklands or Yeovilton would have loved to put in a bid. This stuff really belongs in a museum so I'm hoping someone will put up the money and loan/donate them to a suitable venue. Another option would be for the buyer/seller to let them make copies of the logbooks.

I started the thread on Military Aircrew because of Trubshhaw's Bomber Command origins but it could equally have gone on here, so I'm pleased you have made the link.

It will be obvious from many of my posts that I don't think museums have any inherent right to valuable items when they come on the market - my main hope is that this collection makes a shed-load of money to make Mrs Trubshaw's remaining years as comfortable as possible.

The copies of the logbooks is a very good idea. Many museums actually display replicas of valuable items already - for example our own local regimental museum which owns all seven Victoria Crosses won by the regiment, purchased long before their commercial value went into the stratosphere, actually displays very good replicas and keeps the originals in the bank vault. Joe Public is none the wiser, and the insurance company is happy.
