Dang, didn't think to look at the ERSA.

Now finding the exact location, google earth shows it to be 400m south of the ILS localiser track, assuming my line from the threshold to plenty NDB is accurate. I though a marker had to be exactly on the centreline?

The PLE NDB is slightly north of the center line.

Try Google Maps. I reckon it's that vacant block you see in the satellite view mode.

I too reckon it must be in that vacant block referred to by training wheels.

At first, I thought that location was too far south, but after a few hours playing with Google Earth in a quest to find the "real" OM, I came to the conclusion that, although the vacant block is 300 metres south of the extended centreline, the block must be it.

I also found that the Plenty NDB is 550 metres (0.3 NM) north of the line and the MM is 12 metres north.

The MM is easy to find on Google Earth and the installation is shown very clearly on the associated Street View photo (including the "Air Navigation Facility" sign!).

The antennae used for the marker beacon transmitters have a distinctive shape (like a TV antenna) and the shadow of the MM antenna can be easily seen on the Google Earth photo, but the shadow of the OM antenna I could not discern (the latter photo is not quite as clear).

On one of the Street View images in the vacant block region however, there appear to be two antennas that look like those for marker beacons.

.............yeah we all have too much time on our hands here wasting it on Pprune:ok:
Any marker beacon doesn't have to be aligned with the App as it's a longitudinal cross ref (Height) not lateral:-)

Ok:

A marker beacon doesn't have to be aligned with the Approach track, as it's a longitudinal cross reference not lateral... (ie 90 degree cut to your track, where you "should be" at a set height).

Thanks 'chocks' seems some missed certain classes at kinda:E

Longitudinal meaning 'Long', along the Trk.:-) A position or a 'mark' along that track for the purposes of checking height, hence a Marker beacon. Saying not 'lateral' means the position of a marker beacon doesn't have to be laterally aligned..........:-)
