Anyone know why Aerolinias Argentina stopped in Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego) on Sunday? If it was a fuel top-up, that is usually left to AKL

Havnt studied any met reports, but westerly index is pretty high at this time of year

Did a domestic flight with them last year from Ushuaia to EZE on an A340.

Same same?

Looking at Flightaware, it seems winds were indeed the problem. The initial flightplan EZE-SYD was duration: 17 hours 25 minutes, and the usual is 15 hours 30 mins. So it got re-planned EZE - USH - SYD.

Won't be an issue when they put their A345s into service.

USH used to be a tech stop on the 742 equipment on the Westbound service due to range.

Just the same as CO used to wind up in NAN for bangwasser when the jetstream was howling.

USH is not much of a diversion at all on the great circle route out of EZE.

Best all

Now Knight Flight Travel Managers, chucked Jetset and home based. Same savvy service, same crappy sense of humour. Less overheads!!:D

EWL, My memory recalls they used Rio Gallegos for the fuel stop for the B742, a bit further north than Ushaia but I believe it has a longer runway. The lack of ground equipment to support large widebody aircraft is also a problem at southern airports such as Ushaia and Punta Arenas.
