They had an interview on TV the other day with Dolly.
She hasn't lost any of her charm or ability, that is for sure.

Brains AND a body. And style, drive, determination, and the ability to work hard. A lesson to everyone.

Coming back to the UK next year on her world-wide tour.

One of her one-liners:
"It takes one heck of a lot of money to look this cheap"

I hope she's okay and makes it to her second Australian tour. IIRC the first time around NSW had to rewrite their traffic act so her bus could come too (it was technically a Road Train and wasn't supposed to be allowed in the city :\) but it all got sorted out in the end.

Always thought Dolly was the greatest. :ok:
Favourite quote; 'I'm not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I'm not dumb, and I also know I'm not blonde'. :E:E

These days it's more like 'working Nine to Nine' but the same principles apply...

I hope Dolly recovers soon.

My mother went to see her at her first concert in Oz, said she was really, really short. During the concert Dolly talked about her upbringing in dire poverty, how music was her escape, and how having faith and hope gave her strength - all nice positive stuff.

Apparently there was some big name heavy metal band playing just down the road too that same day. You wouldn't want to get your venues mixed up :}.

I love Dolly and hope to see her when she comes to Aus.

I love her story about how she entered a Dolly Parton lookalike contest and lost to a drag queen. Also her famous quote "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap!"

Something sticks in my mind about a song performed by a space shuttle crew about DP including the line;

"Got my hands thrust deep in my pockets, just thinking about Dolly's rockets"

Is this a false memory, or does anyone else recall it?

One always liked her response when an interviewer asked her how long her hairdo took before a performance....

"Don't rightly know .... I'm not there until the end!"

I've been quoted a figure of 4' 10". She really is tiny.

I saw her in Fremantle in 1986 during Australia's defence of the America's Cup. Allan Bond had hired her to give a concert on the top of his mega-yacht. She was a consummate performer - witty, well-informed and sang brilliantly.

A few years ago, I saw a documentary about her life, and was both touched and impressed.

I have an album of her, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris singing. DP has such a true and pure voice. She is quite tiny, but she gives the impression of giving her absolute best.

As a performer, she just glows. And I don't even like country music.

I hope she's ok.

Years ago when the web was young, there were a couple of photos of Dolly topless. Do a deep search I'm sure you might find it.

I remember back when Johnny Carson was hosting the 'Tonight Show' and Dolly Parton was a guest on the show one night. After the standard questions, somehow the conversation switched to her most noticeable attributes.

Dolly remarked that people had made comments that they were not real, but had been enhanced. Before she could continue Johnny Carson said, "I'll give a year's pay to find out personally".

Course the audience roared with laughter. When things calmed down enough for her to be heard, Dolly replied in her souther accent, "With what you make a year, I'll think about it."

The show was out of control after that.

Did she bounce?

Seems the built in air bags didn't work ?

Q - Why does Dolly Parton have small feet.

A - Nothing grows in the shade.

Hope she bounces back OK - what age will she be now ?

Saw her being interviewed once and the conversation got around to the obvious and wether she considered them to be an asset or a hindrance. She replied that she had never really figured out if they were supporting her or she was supporting them..

She has set up a charity to help provide books for children in poor areas or children in care in the USA, Canada and UK to improve early childhood literacy.

Apparently 40 MILLION books are sent out each year.

Last October we went to Gatlinburg to see the seasonal color and hang out. Went to Dolly World in Sevierville and spent a fantastic day.

I don't know how much Dolly herself had to do with building this place, but it is a totally wholesome, positive, entertaining experience any parents could feel comfortable sharing with their children.

I think Dolly is a truly good person who never forgot her roots and values despite her success. She prevailed over the temptations and false gods of show business. I respect her a lot.

One problem, though. It's dry. You can get some moonshine in Gatlinburg though, where it's legal now.
