Incident: Air India B788 near Adelaide on Oct 27th 2013, "semi-emergency"

By Simon Hradecky, created Monday, Oct 28th 2013 08:34Z, last updated Monday, Oct 28th 2013 08:34Z
An Air India Boeing 787-800, registration VT-ANN performing flight AI-311 from Melbourne,VI (Australia) to Delhi (India), was enroute at FL360 about 370nm north of Melbourne and 150nm norteast of Adelaide,SA (Australia) when the aircraft descended to FL350 and turned around due to a flaperon problem. In the meantime Melbourne tower informed workers on runway 27, that the runway would be needed for a "semi-emergency" coming in. The aircraft descended further to FL290 for the return to Melbourne, then performed a normal approach and landing onto Melbourne's runway 27 at a normal speed about 75 minutes after turning around.

The aircraft was able to depart in the afternoon of the following day and is estimated to reach Delhi with a delay of 28 hours.:ok:

Er, maybe the difference between a PAN or a MAYDAY.

But then again why would I want to ruin your party and stop you from getting on your high horse?

One was on deck in Syd for about a week recently, huge probs with ingestion and cooling probs on air india (prob don't get cleaned/insp frequently enough) overheating caused load shedding of the systems
