OK, probably a stupid question... but... OH is flying AGP to LGW on MON737 this afternoon and just out of curiosity I have been watching its LGW-AGP inbound leg.
Normally these flights route via SOU then the Brest Peninsular then head SW to cross the Spanish coast abeam Santander then direct Madrid and Malaga. This mornings MON736 flight however is taking a somewhat devious track (?).
Outbound route seems to have been a Seaford departure, routing between Paris and Le Mans thence more or less direct across Andorra heading directly towards Valencia; in fact at this moment its overhead Valencia at 37000ft and has just taken up a new heading directly towards Malaga...

Stupid question... why this route?

Over 100 mph headwinds on "normal" route hence tracking further east to avoid jetstream.

Possibly to avoid a significant ATC delay on the favoured route. These flights are subject to flow restrictions. Sometimes it makes sense to take a slightly longer route (if that was the case) with no delay rather than incurring say an hour's ground delay to fly the favoured route.

Edit: my answer crossed with Groundhog.
