View Full Version : Delete history

For once, a trivial problem. I use Firefox (always the latest version). I delete history before closing Firefox. When I next use Firefox I notice that three - always the same three - websites haven't been deleted. They're in the drop-down menu and are nothing more exciting than an online booking service for hotels, an Australian cable TV guide and a Google search. I can easily tolerate their presence - but it's frustrating not to know how to make them go away. Once, I recall, I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox - and this irksome trio were still there. I regularly run CCleaner - and after doing so . . . they're still bloody there. How do I make them go away (I've tried right-clicking on each and that doesn't work)? I suspect it's something simple - but WHAT? I really hope someone knows the answer.

In Firefox, have you tried, "Tools" "Options" "Privacy" "Clear history when Firefox Closes"

ctrl-shift-del then "everything" (or Firefox > History > Clear recent history > "everything") might also do it for you. Otherwise, you can can do Firefox > History > Show all history then try to delete the three individually.

LANTERN - That option doesn't seem to exist in my (latest) Firefox version - it's all drop-down stuff, unlike some other browsers.
BUSHFIVA - Control-Shift-Delete worked beautifully . . . or so I thought. Afterwards, I exited Firefox . . . but the buggers were back when I opened it up again. I've always used "Everything" when clearing history - it gets rid of everything else but not these.
I'll just have to learn to ignore them - unless there's another solution.
Thanks to both of you, anyway.

Have you tried just highlighting the url (don't click on it) in the dropdown and pressing delete? If it's a Mac then Shift+Delete.

I would guess they might be 'autoloading' onto an 'empty' Firefox for some reason? Try Tools > Options > Tabs > Don't load tabs until selected.

I've done that, and it seems to work, but .......... can you help !

My Firefox browser had a little orange label in the top left hand corner - called "Firefox" - nice and simple.

In faffing around, as we do sometimes, I inadvertently clicked on something like ...: "show menu" .... (? or similar wording) and now the nice little orange box has disappeared, the left hand label is now the Mozilla Firefox Start Page tab - which is OK - but above the line now are the headings of all the 'menu' i.e. File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help permanently in view. I don't want that.

How can I remove that line and restore the orange Firefox label ?

For a start - I don't know which menu I was in when I selected the change, which doesn't help, nor can I find it on another computer.

Any clues ?

Thanks.

Thanks, everyone - my little problem is solved. Those pesky leftovers that should have been deleted are now gone. When I close and then re-open Firefox they don't return. I think it was simply highlight-and-delete which did it - but I'm not sure as I tried a couple of suggestions.

Speedbird,

Click on 'view'
select 'toolbars'
Uncheck the 'menu bar' option

Thanks, must have ticked it accidentally as I was messing around.

So easy when you know how. ( like anything else in Life, it's not hitting it with a hammer one needs to know, it's where to hit it ! )
