NZ 250kts below 10000ft

Hi,

When IFR and cleared for a Visual Approach, does the 250kts below 10000ft limit still apply? Or, does this cancellation only apply to the published visual arrival procedures. This came up the other day as ATC stated that since we were on the visual arrival procedure the 250kt requirement was cancelled.

Can someone point me in the right direction in the NZ AIP. I have had a good search but cannot find a reference.

250 kts below 10000' is airpace classification speed restriction (applies for Class D, E, G airspace, and VFR only in A, C).

Cleared visual approach when via published visual arrival procedure any altitude or speed constraints apply on that procedure unless specifically cancelled by ATC.

When cleared visual approach there are no altitude, speed or tracking constraints other than airspace classification, ATC instructions and general rules (PArt 91 etc).

I think this is what you want:

4.9.8 The phraseology “NO APPROACH SPEED REQUIREMENT” will be used
by a radar controller to cancel the requirement for maximum 250kt IAS
below 10,000ft within 30NM of Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch
International airports, and also any initial approach speed requirements
published on STAR charts. Any speed requirement on final still applies.

4.9.11 Unless otherwise specified, a clearance for a visual approach
terminates any ATC speed requirement in place including published
requirements being complied with or yet to be acted upon.
