Hi sports fans. Well I just flew 9 friends up to the Hunter in the trusty Chieftan for lunch and it was a fantastic day.

Everyone's keen to do it again but with an overnight so this poor pilot can have a glass or two!

Any suggestions for a destination. within 3 hours of Sydney to take the crew and rent a holiday house for a night?

Picturesque, runway at least 1000m.

Lovin' doing some real flying again!

Griffith has some great wine/restaurants, as does Mildura.
Merimbula is a good overnight too, very scenic flight coastal from Sydney.
Ballina is another good one, short drive to Byron.

Hi All
I have a plane booked tomorrow and I'm thinking of taking the family to Cowra for a day trip. Anyone know of any good places to visit while there?

Japanese Gardens, breakout museum, and don't forget the visitors centre, it's on the way from the airport to town. Lachlan Valley railway depot may be open if you like vintage rail, you can also grab some lunch downtown and go up to Bellevue Hill to the picnic area and lookout. Don't forget the Brumby factory at the airport if you're interested in RaAus.

There are also the wineries (check out the Mill) if your fellow travelers like that sort of outing, knowing of course that you can't sample to local wares!

Narromine, good accom on the airport, great feed at the victoria hotel just over the railway lines, (about 10 mins walk) and museum on site as well. wright flyer!

also, a little thurther, White Cliffs, great for the genuine desert trip, and underground Hotel, unreal, and they pick you up from airport, avgas available.

also, Camden haven on the mid north coast, accom in cabins on the airfield, awesome smooth grass strip, nice fishing in the river on the taxiway.

Jindabyne, again, accommodation on the airfield, very cheap taxi ride to town, or to skitube, or thredbo. nice walks and scenery.

Tumut, nice B&B approx 100 mtrs up the road from airport.

Hay, shearers museum at end of airfield, short walk to town, or very quick taxi ride. accom about 10 mins walk, across road from shearers museum.

Lightning Ridge! no avgas, but avgas at walget about 20 miles south. plenty of accom in town, most will pick you up. great sceneic flighying over the town. nice hot spring free pools.

Moree,
plenty of accom, real nice at the springs motel, 3 spring fed pools of varying temperatures. fantastic to just lie in and relax. plenty of grey nomads though.

just a a few off the top of my head.

Brown Brothers Vineyard at Milawa. Fly direct or after a stay at Merimbula. Good restaurant, great wine, accomodation right there.

Another vote for Cowra, very underrated place to spend a weekend, a side trip to Canowindra is also good (check the ALA is still available) and a heap of wineries in the district to check out .... :ok:
