Unless another one to make up a pair can be found, the missus won't be interested.

The ultimate folly. For people with considerably more money than sense.

:) Well, at least it shows! (=the money).

In my mind the bad thing is you have to know it's the one (well, any diamond versus a fake) - to me a well-done glass looks the same :ouch:. Maybe that's why I prefer semi-precious stones - more character and colour.
Must be sour grapes? :p

Well the colour is only caused by impurities within the carbon,I'd want a proper unsullied one for that price.

That is true of other colours but a pink diamond gets the colour from a twist in the crystal matrix.
That's why they are so expensive. If it is cut incorrectly, that internal tension can be released changing the colour from pink to white...

Not a fan of pink-does it come in any other colour?

in 1996 I was in camp in Jamba Angola when a dishevelled bloke strolled in and offered some diamonds for $50 they were purchased by my boss (RIP Tim) on speculation (to me they looked like the shattered parts of a brake light lens), one turned out to be a red diamond (and I mean blood red not a red hue), probably about 1 carat uncut (about the size of the nail on your pinkie) at the time there were IIRC only 6 other examples know to exist. No idea what ever came of it :ugh::{

Yes, I have a good size one in black, but one has to be careful around an open flame

Whoever buys it will shove it in a vault and hope to sell it in a decade or so for a handsome profit. If he doesn't he is not going to worry about it.
