I have just heard first, then saw a second later a brilliant VC10 in drab grey flying as though to pass down the centre line of the old Salmsbury Aerodrome just outside Blackburn/Preston possible landing at Warton?
What a good and totally supprising visit by a superb A/c.:D

Peter: You were fortunate enough to catch one of the pair of VC10s on their final training sortie before flying into retirement next week, thus ending some 47 years service:

Perhaps in the US at a Redflag exercise ? Or failing that over Italy/ex-Yugoslavia during the Hostilities there.
How sad that there wasn't any flying done during the UK 2013 airshow season (to my knowledge) as a tribute to the aircraft's service over the years, not least it's beautiful form and the sound of it's engines.

What a sad day for Aviation, I know all good things come to an end, but that Aircraft the VC10 has been around throughout my life, the piece by the BBc states £10.5Billion to replace it......well done Government, what an awful lot of money thrown away,... possibly all concotted by either Blair or Brown:=
I saw it on its first flight in BOAC colours , and by pure chance I saw it on its last in Drab Grey which looks just as good to me!

Above the racket of my lawnmower I heard an unusual sound overhead earlier today. Four Conways! It was a VC10! It overflew Chesham (nr Bovingdon) at about 3000 ft about 1315 local time, heading 220ish. Was it the last flight of the last a/c? Fifty years ago I saw the prototype in BOAC colours inbound to LHR.
A sad moment.
Edited to add: other threads have confirmed the a/c was en route to Dunsfold for its final landing.
