Ppruners.

today, around 14.30 on the Shropshire/Powys (about 9/10km south of Newtown) border i saw a GR4 do something i've not seen before...

it flew reasonably low (not silly, scary low - but low) west to east and then pull up hard and (from where i was standing, about 4/5km away) it appeared to do a loop-the-loop and then egress northward at some speed. very shortly afterwards another fast jet also went west to east, but this time much further south (maybe New Radnor direction..), and within a couple of minutes another GR4 (possibly the first?) again flew WSW-ENE along the Kerry Ridgeway at perhaps 900ft and then disappear off towards Clun...

i didn't see anything that the GR4 would have been 'strenuously' avoiding when it did this loop or wing-over manouver, so i wondered if what i saw was toss or loft bombing?

as ever, grateful for your help.

It was practicing glider avoidance.

Most probably they were conducting a simulated Paveway IV loft manoeuvre followed by the standard recovery from said manoeuvre to avoid 'self-fragging.'
