Without wishing to comment on the innocence or otherwise of the two ladies arested in Ecuador recently for attempting to smuggle drugs, one had an extraordinary hairstyle, the likes of which I have never seen before. But I have since: at lunch today two of the three Irish ladies on the next table also had their hair up in balls on top of their heads. Is this a new trend I'm missing out on, or is it an Irish thing ?

Somebody who has been in the media frequently recently has sported it - ergo it will become fashionable amongst the daytime TV & reality show viewing parts of the population.

I get out a lot, thank you very much, but haven't seen this hairstyle worn in Spain, Italy or France, which is where I have gotten out recently. Next month it's the UK so while there I'll do what the lewd lady with the glass eye did.

They were arrested in Peru. How old are you and what would you really know about current trends and fashions - Irish or Peruvian?:p

That style of hair wear was quite popular in the south of England soon after WWII. It was quite a sensible way to fashion your hair when you were using manually operated agricultural machinery of the time to mangle wurzels or milk the cows. It was very common amongst the ubiquitous Maisies and Wendys of the bluebell or butterfly laden woods and pastures of rural Hampshire.

I thought that was where she was hiding the stash. Singularly unattractive too.

Irrefutable evidence that buns can be beautiful.

On the right person and with the right look.

I think Audrey Hepburn had something similar
and looked the part.

Michaella McCollum Connolly has been overheard crying telling Peruvian Police "I don't want to go to a hell hole, please don't send me back to Dungannon!" :E

I spent a week working in Dungannon earlier this year. One of the friendliest places I've been to for a long time, maybe a bit quiet for a young girl but it's only 40 minutes from Belfast which has a thriving night life.

OK, Peru then, sh*t, I can't be right all the time. But I know more about "current trends" and fashions than you think, you egrarious blend of ill-juxtaposed second-hand molecules and past-their-sell-by date-amino acids, you.

I have been to the Republic of Ireland many times and the hair styling is just about 100% abysmal. Even the professional/managerial classes seem to have cuts administered by a drunk blind man using a scythe.
In fact it is a bit of a spectator sport whilst there to spot the most egregious examples.

" the professional/managerial classes seem to have cuts administered by a drunk blind man using a scythe.

It's a real shame I could not socially introduce you to a very good friend, a lady who is Irish and who, with her Doctorate from the Sorbonne, falls firmly into your description. Her hair is retro-styled, and looks very smart.

A conversation with her on this topic would be entertaining at the end....she isn't blind and would smile :E:D as she demonstrated her prowess, not with a scythe ( unless one was handy ) but to ensure your sex life was muted for a very long time to come.

" In fact it is a bit of a spectator sport whilst there to spot the most egregious examples.

If it's any consolation, the same criteria applies here on JB ( for me at least ) and you have strong competition as a prize example of the bold above.

Well Bono of U2 back in the 80's had quite the hair-do, no?

I doubt it judging by your hairstyle in your photo.:p

Best you keep under that rock of yours away from the harsh Spanish sunlight, and only crawl out at night.;)

Prety much what I do, ol' bean, as I'm fed up with paying the dermatologist to excise cancerous bits every year.
