I find it difficult to imagine Rugby being played anywhere in the US of A.

I mean they play that girly "American Football" with all that protective gear and a sort of game we would call "tag" rugby. Plus no-one seems to be on the pitch for longer than 5 minutes at a time and they have 10 minute breaks between 30 seconds of action.

How else are you going to get rid of previously consumed beer, load up on pizza, nachos, and wings, and get more beer?

G&T there are quite a few clubs in USA, the National Executive is none other than Nigel Melville, ex Bath (IIRC) & England. The Eagles (why they give their sporting teams sush eejit names is beyond me) have played in a number of rugby world cups and aquitted themselves very well. There are a number of American pros scattered throughout the European leagues.

WC, you obviously didn't see the first of the 2 game series played in South Carolina last Saturday. ;)

America, outside ivy league, will one day get rugby and then it will be game on...

At the moment the Canucks are by far the better players from that continent...

Yup, guilty. Watching guys jump on top of one another and rolling around isn't quite my cup of tea, likely watched in San Francisco however.

So why do the Finns suck at rugby?

They're pretty good at hockey!

It doesn't stop at Rugby.....we are slowly civilising our American friends. They even have their own dedicated Cricket Ground. A proper stadium no less.

USA gets its first cricket stadium in Lauderhill, FL - Dreamcricket News (http://www.dreamcricket.com/dreamcricket/news.hspl?nid=7669&ntid=4)

The USA are actually the reigning Olympic champions in the sport of Rugby.....they won the last time it was played at an Olympic games (1924 IIRC).

As for Cricket, they've been playing that for a long time too. George Washington would probably have been familiar with it. The world's first international sporting fixture is thought to have been a cricket match between USA and Canada, and quite a big deal at the time, or so I'm told.

I guess you did not watch the recent world club 7's at Twickenham the past teo weeks.

A New York team did rather well taking down success.

It does not have the commercial success here yet making it harder to develop, though it's happening.

My club in NYC has an active program with schools to start deceloping a deeper bench which will over the long run make a big difference.

Look at The Eagles performance over the past few world cups and they are definately getting better.

Anyhoo, Go Team USA!!

Canada 13 - 11 USA

Poor game, severely lacking in skill and ambition, so so many unforced errors and poor tactical kicking made it difficult to watch. Poor turn out also, I would guess 8000 in a 30,000 seater (supposedly) stadium.

However a win's a win.

I find it difficult to imagine Rugby being played anywhere in the US of A.

I lived in Kalamazoo for a while. Walked into the local party (liquor) store and the guy behind the counter with no neck was wearing a Kalamazoo rugby shirt. I said "You look like a hooker", and that's when the trouble started.....

True story (and he was hooker), but there wasn't any trouble as I was wearing my All Blacks shirt at the time ...:)
