which is best for A Levels

Hi there fellow wannabes!!

I am applying to colleges and i have made my mind up in Maths and phisics as my first two subjects.

As there are very much experienced people around here, Id appreciate it if you guyz could give me some advise on my third subject, which subject would be best if I were to go flight training after and had have plans for an airline career?

I have an option to choose Electronics AS Levels as well which was just introduced last year. . .Many thanks in advance.

Oh and, what would be best to do for maths?

I have an option to do 'Pure Maths', 'Mechanics' and 'statistics'

If there is a course which covers all 3 aspects.....opt for that......if not....select the one that you are best at and enjoy. I would imagine that mechanics is the most relevant to pilots, but i could be wrong.

I myself took the integrated course last september .

HEY WANNABE,. .I HAVE FINISHED AN AB INITIO COURSE IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS, HAVING STARTED STRAIGHT FROM A-LEVELS. I PERSONALLY CHOOSE MATHS(WITH MECHANICS),PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY. I FOUND THAT ALL OF THESE HELPED IN A WAY, IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO MATHS I WOULD CHOOSE MECHANICS. EG, WHEN YOU DO PERF, EVEN SIMPLE THINGS LIKE RESOLVING THE FORCES IN A CLIMB CAN HELP YOU SEE WHERE THE FORMULA CAME FROM, AND AS THEY SAY, UNDERSTANDING GOES A HELL OF A LONG WAY TOWARDS LEARNING.

Do something you enjoy. Physics and Maths are hard going and lets be honest, well in my opinion are not the most interesting of subjects.

If you are interested in say History, Politics, Economics, Law etc do them. For a start the extra reading required "Reading round the subject" is valuable experience for learning facts and learning the ability to research.

Also, don't you people realise that there is a bit more to commercial aviation than maths and physics? To be honest, you'd be better off doing English language (for the exams) English lit (for the crosswords) and Psychology (for the CRM)

If I'd studied these subjects, I'd be a far more effective crew member!!

Do what you're good at, A level maths etc won't help.

I did double maths, physics and geography - the geography covered most of the meteorology you will meet at ATPL level.

Physics and Maths will make things easier when you get to ATPL exams. Geography and Biology will help too and are definately more interesting than the previous two. Dont forget English, some airlines insist on this. eg:Qantas.

Thanks to all for replying,. .you have helped a lot.. .And I am with you Sugey, I see a lot of pilots with A Levels in Maths or Physics.

So I am probably going to take Maths mechanics and phyisics as my first two.

Now I am left with these options for my third or fourth subjects:

Electronics, Pshychology, Geogrophy, English Language, English Literature or. .English Language & Literature.

Should I consider doing four A-Levels?. .because I think I really should consider taking one of those English subjects, it would really help on top of electronics (or whichever one I take). Oh and, English is not my first language.. .But I seem to be good at it for GCSE's, so its not a big problem if I dont.

Or would four A Levels be too much for me to cope with?

Depends how bright you are as to whether you should do 3 or 4 A levels. I started out doing three but found that I was not stretched enough, so I took up a fourth, some people do 5, although the fifth one tends to be general studies which is a bit of a joke. However, whatever you decide, make sure you pick a subject you enjoy.
