View Full Version : Would you watch a certificate 18 or violent movie on a plane?

On your laptop with headphones - not on the airline entertainment system obviously.

I'd like to watch Rise of the Footsoldier on the flight I'm about to board - it's downloading now. By all accounts it's a bit gritty and rough. I'm worried about kids in nearby seats seeing it and parents complaining. Less so some Mary Whitehouse being offended and complaining.

Should I be concerned? Anyone else do it occasionally?

No, but then I probably wouldn't go to see it at a cinema.

But assuming I would watch it, if my seat mates were children I would definitely not watch. However if they were adult I would explain and if they objected I would acquiesce.

When you're on a plane and not in the toilet, then you're in a public place.

If you're in an aisle seat or there are kids immediately behind you, could you perhaps watch a film that is slightly less visceral in its scenes ? Most laptops seem to have the capacity to store more than one film...

Yes I know I can have more than one film I was just in the mood for this one :) I'm not a big film watcher and have to be in the mood.

Anyway I bottled it and read a book. The movie will have to wait for the flat screen one evening at home... :O

Why not? Last time I flew long-haul I was watching an R-rated movie (for violence, language, sexuality/nudity and some drug use, according to IMDB) on the airline entertainment system.

Oh yeah, and it even included a scene where one of the characters blew up an airliner.

I would have thought common sense would prevail here. Why provoke reaction from others who may be offended by you watching someting like that? Do you know who will be sitting next to you? Why not wait until you are in your hotel room where you can watch it in private and have your nuts as well.

In the 1990's a film called Boogie Nights told the story of a porn star called John Holmes who had what is best described as a very long 'member'.

This film was shown on BA flights. At that time some aircraft still had monitors and screens throughout the cabins.

I still remember vividly walking down the aisle of a packed aircraft when the final scene played out. I had not seen the movie and am dammed sure the people who choose the films for inflight entertainment hadn't either.

The last few minutes of the film just show a very, very long penis hanging there!

I still laugh when I think about it, unlike a lot of the passengers.

With respect, the very fact that you ask the question in the first case, suggests that you are not entirely at ease with watching this film in what is essentially a public space.

Wait till you get somewhere private and then enjoy your screening in full, without any fear of distraction from other persons present.
