We have yet another occurrence where Dress and Grooming Standards of Returning Combat Veterans are being degraded following their Return from Afghanistan.

A Marine Corps Sgt Major has taken a harsh posture re such violations.

"Rules are for the guidance of wise men, and the obedience of fools."

For such people was the word Martinet adopted.

Yet another difference. True this was a civilian cap but when we used to go in to the Commissary there was a sailor or marine telling us to uncover when we went inside.

Totally different from the British dress standard where it used to be the norm to wear uniform headdress indoors so that you could salute.

But a marine with hair? my hair was a little messy so I decided to put a baseball cap on

Maybe this should be on the "SWO" thread, but here goes....

I had just arrived at my new posting after having done a two year tour in Northern Ireland, where dress and hair standards were "relaxed". I had planned to go straight to the barbers for a trim but was collared by the SWO and given a verbaling.
My explanation was dismissed and was told to get shorn. After my haircut I presented myself for inspection but only one of the GD airmen was in his office.
I asked if he was always so unreasonable and the airman said, "Not really, but he was pissed off when he saw you were half his age and had twice the medal ribbons!"
