Name on Ticket and passport

Hi all
I'm sure this has been asked before, however...

A friend has booked a round trip Frankfurt-Bangalore. He used his first, middle and last names on the booking. His passport though does not have his middle name on it.

Will that be a problem?

No easy answer - It could be a problem if the name on the ticket doesn't match the name on the passport.

Has he asked the airline if they can edit the booking?

the important ones are First & Last - most airlines don't have middle names (or third ones if you are young George Cambridge) recorded

Thanks ExXB. He called LH and they said if he wanted the middle name taken out he would have to cancel and rebook, which seems a bit harsh to me as the fare is non refundable.
