The new UAV contract is out now and what worries me is that they are going to base all future UAV viability and use on "the success" in DRC.

Anyone who has ever been there knows its going to be a disaster unless the UAV is big and bold or Cu Nim proof, so poor old Sudan and Mali will never get any.

Do you know who's been awarded the contract, what type of UAV?

Will UAVs be game changers in future peacekeeping? by Thomas Chappelow (http://www.defenceiq.com/air-forces-and-military-aircraft/articles/will-uavs-be-game-changers-in-future-peacekeeping/&mac=DFIQ_OI_Featured_2011&utm_source=defenceiq.com&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=DFIQOptIn&utm_content=8/13/13)

Note 70 kg payload, so must be the tactical local area only type of UAV, its a start I guess.

When the company I worked for 4 years ago bid for the contract I got the impression the Congo UAV contract is one of these mythical $100m contracts that never quite gets signed, but is more of a biannual ritual to be seen to be bidding for if you're in that sector. Has anyone ever actually provided UAVs to the UN there, ever?

As far as I know Selex won the competition with the Falco UAV.
