For those interested Air Niugini are about to commence a regular 737 service in between Moresby and Bali. Could be a money spinner if the fares aren't over inflated.

Jollys for Pollies (thieves), otherwise a waste of time I suspect

Hopefully it will fly several times a week, that will fit my needs nicely. I assume Garuda will also be starting up a DPS-POM vv service.

Would have thought that route startup ideal for their Q400's:ok:

Would that be the Q400ER or Q400LR?

Q400 to Bali? It's a long way from POM.

Bryan Grey was thinking of an Air Niugini route POM-DRW-DPS way back when. He was always ahead of his time... even getting into submarines!!!

It's only once a week on a Monday night.

And if the airfares are anything like they charge to Singapore and Manila, I don't think there will be too many takers !!

Also Garuda will fly Jakarta to Port Moresby:

Now the people smugglers don't have to use dangerous flimsy boat transport. Now we cross the Indonesian border into PNG then hire a "tinny" and drop onto Horn Is. If you have the cash to fly to Indonesia, why not just keep going in comfort?

Those being sent to PNG and found genuine, but "pushed in" get a PNG passport and just catch a flight to Cairns.

This announcement brought to you by the commonwealth government. (or whatever he calls himself).

Can't get a bite.

Doesn't it seem strange all this Garuda/ Air New Guinea stuff gets highlighted 24 hours after our PM makes an announcement about Indonesian people smuggling. If you get a job, good for you, but think outside your playpens before you get too excited.

The first post was 18 JUL so even conspiracy theorists get a leg in here.

If London is the Kangaroo Route maybe this could be the "Rudd Route"

Oracle 1,
Unfortunately, too true !!
Frank, what's the bet the people smugglers are already organizing tinnies in Daru.

I have a 12' DeHavilland with 9.9 Johnson going for $150,000.00 if anybody is interested. Get in before the rush!

On a separate note, is Garuda code sharing with Air New Guinea and who do they code share with? Just asking because Kev was a bit short on detail.

Kina 999.00 return.
Probably more money in a one way ticket.

Cheapest return AUD514.80 and cheapest oneway AUD253.30.

Just don't try going into Indo on a one-way. Works half the time but I suppose a fist full of USDs either end will smooth the way.

IATA fares issue in USDs ex other countries selling ex PNG and indeed Indo as the local currencies are deemed to be too dodgy.

It may be a clever plan by the Baldrick of Australian politics, or is it Kevin Blackadder?

Ship asylum seekers direct from Benoa Harbour to Port Morbid - Damn!! I'm giving him ideas!!

Cheapest possible fare in Kina including taxes sold locally there is PGK1114.20.

Best all

Re the Rudd Root

Has anyone out there ever been canvassed re these opinion polls. I read and watch with interest all these new approval figures for this idiot, and everyone I speak to can't stand the guy, or more importantly have never be contacted for their view on who they would support as preferred PM or primary vote etc.

These BS figures are so misleading.

Sorry for the thread drift.

Air Niugini is looking at a return to Auckland and to Fiji:

Would they be able to reach AKL from POM in a 737-700?

From great circle it is only 2228 miles. 737-700 would do it easy.

The PNG Government took the 737-700 to Wellington on a direct flight last week, the 737-800 could also do the same if they choose to use it.

Could PX fly to Auckland with a stop at Brisbane, Sydney or even Nadi?

Interesting
They could even fly via TSV as they have intentions to return to that port by the end of the year as well:
PNG PM wants Townsville-Port Moresby flights to take off - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-07-01/png-pm-pledges-to-resurrect-townsville-port/4791256)

The new schedule to Bali is:

OUTBOUND Port Moresby (POM) to Bali (DPS)
Flight Departure Arrival Stops Equipment Economy Business
PX394 Jacksons International Airport (POM)
18:20 | Mon, 26-Aug-13 Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)
21:10 | Mon, 26-Aug-13 0 Stop(s) Boeing 737

INBOUND Bali (DPS) to Port Moresby (POM)
Flight Departure Arrival Stops Equipment Economy Business
PX395 Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)
22:10 | Mon, 02-Sep-13 Jacksons International Airport (POM)
05:00 | Tue, 03-Sep-13 0 Stop(s) Boeing 737

A long flight also 5 hours (2 hour time difference) does not state if its the 700 or 800 operating it. By their online timetable one 737 has no flights from tuesday to thursday the other has no flights thursday so lots of space for new routes. However the 767 fleet are well used with flights on all days. So one can expect any new flights would be 737 or F100 aircraft.

I doubt that they would gain traffic rights Aus-NZ.

A bit of history. PX caused a great deal of consternation in QF BNE state office when we started to fly TSV CNS POM as we provide a direct connection at POM for SIN on one day and HKG on another day. QF State Manager complained about me personally (as PX rep in north QLD) in the TSV newspaper for drumming up business thus forcing QF to start international services out of TSV for SIN. SQ followed for a short while.
Similarly QF started services out of CNS for USA after PX provided a direct connection CNS POM HNL.
Even though PX were operating out of TSV to POM most, if not all, Charters Towers school kids returning to POM on holidays were still bussed to CNS to catch the flight!!!

Yes indeed, It would be better to offer a non-stop service to POM as many will connect with the 767 onto Asia and 1 stop is enough 2 stops to their final destination will be too hard to sell to the public.

My guess is on POM-AKL a 737 (with similar times to the DPS flight) and on POM-TSV a F100 or Q400.

Animalclub, curious as to why you think that would be the case.

Does not the "Freedoms of the Air" apply to the route.

We tried when we were operating POM AKL POM to go via CNS or TSV and got knocked back. We even tried to get rights for just traffic which we carried in to CNS or TSV (I forget what number freedom that is) to AKL. We did no good.

The POM AKL POM flights started out as a charter once a year over the Christamas Holiday... then to once a month charter... then a scheduled service once a week.

I was "localised" which put an end to my involvement but it went on to be extended to HKG in a tripartite agreement with NZ and CX. The agreement was negotiated incorrectly thus NZ put all their low yield AKL HKG traffic via POM - as did CX - and as PX was operating the flight the first period of the agreement they didn't make any money!!
