Delta Airlines announces hiring plans for summer schedule 2014. Now accepting applications for 300-400 positions.

Mainline. Whole bunch of un-defers, followed by flow-ups from Compass, Pinnacle, followed by street hires.

I'd give my left nut to work for Delta, unfortunately they won't like my EASA ATPL. :sad:

AA should be announcing new hires soon as well. Just back from recurrent, the word is they are still planning on October.

Nice to see the US legacies ramping up again!

AA new hire pay $40/hr, but will come up to DL with new joint AA/US contract.

This is just the start. All of the majors((American, USAirways, Continental, United, Southwest, FedEx(some excess now until they absorb all of the 727 guys), UPS)) will be hiring. Delta has 3000-3500 mandatory retirements in the next 10 years. Pretty much the same at all carriers.

Can European pilots move west? By the looks of it, with the US implementing their 1500 hours rule and the retirement wave, it seems like we're looking at some strong demand there.

I'm totally ignorant of US visa/workforce regulations, but would it be viable?

You need a green card to work over here. Only way to get that is via marriage to a national or having an immediate family member with citizenship. I came over here after getting married to an American. The FAA licence conversion isn't too bad.

All that being said, I'm itching to get back to the UK.

Mainly to be closer to family and friends, but also to get away from the toxic atmosphere created by the huge political and social divide over here. We'd prefer our kids to go through the UK education system too. Not to mention how badly the airlines in my sector of the industry tend to treat their pilots.

It's a great adventure and I do enjoy it over here, particularly where I live now, but there's no place like home.

Can European pilots move west?No, but they just might be able to move east, provided pilots market across the pond suffers sudden upturn and some Yankee expats return home. Small chance but I keep my fingers crossed.

Actually Europe will not look that bad either ... by the end of 1Q-2014 the airline showbizz will see some good numbers ... EU is now taking advantage of tons of investment made during the past 3 years of very cheap market!
