Can anyone provide me with a list of the exams I will need to do for my ppl? Are they all written or are some more practical?

List of current written exams for the JAA PPL:
Aviation Law
Meteorology
Navigation
Human Performance and Limitations
Flight Performance and Planning
Aircraft General and Principles of Flight
Communications
There is also a practical Radio-Telephony exam that must be done with an authorised RT examiner.
All written exams are multi-choice, between 20 and 50 questions long.
Buy a PPL Confuser (title of a book), read it, pass the exams, easy as that. Honestly the confuser saw me through all my exams.

If you are in the UK, your best bet is Transair Pilot Shop, either ring them on 01273 466000 or check out their web site www.transair.co.uk (http://www.transair.co.uk)
I have a question, when reading the AFE Human Factors and Flight Safety book, I wondered if there is a Flight Safety exam?? Even though I shall read all of it, does this mean I will only get tested on the first half-Human Factors??

You are correct the Thom HPL Book has a section on Flight Safety that wont be covered in the exam. Although I would get confirmation on that from your instructor.
