View Full Version : Virgin NZ not happy!

Well, looks like Virgin Aus have neglected their NZ pilots for long enough.

To strike or not to strike this is the topic, I bet Brisbane never seen that coming.

But wait, I hear the company have sent big Dick Tanner to get it sorted, that's lucky.

Good luck lads.

For those of us not with VANZ can you give us a basic run down on what you're talking about? Ie what the dispute is about ( EBA Iguess) and what the sticking points are etc.
Cheers

HR to the rescue!! Whatever you do don't believe the spin and the rhetoric, get everything in writing, every promise, every demand, and stick together.
It is appalling that an imminent strike is the only motivation for HR to negotiate or attempt to fix the problem, perhaps there are some corporate bonuses at risk??
Would never have happened under Highfield.

Good luck lads and ladettes.

Jack, you know as well as I do getting it on paper won't make a tiny bit of difference!!! HR is what it is.......

I thought it was all nutted out via the unions and EBA? That is not happy, but they accepted it.

When you say strike, do you mean protected industrial action?

The company created it, so they can fix it. All this stuff the bean counters think was saving money is now going to cost them, they just do not get it :ugh:

Too funny. First EBA with Tanner as head of IR and industrial action is on the agenda.

Surprised???

Not really.

Vorsicht, very funny indeed, and certainly not surprising. It will be interesting to see how Tanner and his 'skills' manage the impending inferno? Will he be able to smother the flames first, I doubt it. Who will he call on to assist? Some Consultants? The Lawyers? We all know that the little man, Il Deuce, doesn't take too kindly to failures, so I hope the Tanned one is on his game! A strike would endanger his bonus and longevity at The Village.

Word is Skywest is next. The're not happy with the ultimatum handed down by Dick either.

Or it could be Il Deuce doesn't give a $h!t about VANZ.

This is VANZ that is the issue, not VAA. There is no "protected industrial action" in NZ. There is no "Fair work EnZed". There is no binding mediation in NZ, its not even called a EBA. I don't think the Tanned one has noticed the differences in NZ and Aus industrial law either....

Il Deuce isn't dumb, he probably kept RT on as bad cop so he can keep his hands clean...

Is anyone surprised, VANZ had no input into how the existing pilots would be integrated. VIPA AFAP and the company are well aware of the issue. Written contracts signed in 2008, integration letters, emails from RT himself. Probably hoped it would just go away. As iv said before "$h!t storm"

On a quick side note but under the heading about VANZ not happy, apparently they have dropped their Australian GHA in Toll Dnata...costs don't add up supposedly...

Do you know If the work is going in house?

I don't know specifics but the two potential and highly likely outcomes will be half and half (CS insourced) and ramp out sourced (potentially Aerocare) or fully outsource to one of two companies, Aero-Care or Menzies.

Facts:

1. Protected industrial action does exist in NZ.
2. EBA = CEA.
3. Fair Work AU = Department of Labour NZ.
4. Game Change VAA = Uniform Change NZ. Other than that, it's still PB.
5. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

Due to the current state of affairs, you won't get too much more from anyone on here. Why not go and talk to the boys next time you see them in the terminal, they'll fill you right in.

Virgin jobs under threat in NZ

1:10 PM Thursday May 29, 2014

Jobs of Virgin Australia managers in New Zealand are under threat as the airline assesses whether it will shift the roles to Australia.
Virgin's management in this country is based in Christchurch and it is believed up to 40 staff could be affected.
The airline's pilots and cabin crew based here would not be affected.
"We are currently reviewing a proposal to integrate the management of Virgin Australia New Zealand's operations into the rest of our international operations, which would see one team manage all of our international operations out of Brisbane, Australia," a spokeswoman said.
The airline said proposal would create a single line of accountability, improving coordination of our international operations and reducing duplication.
"No decision will be made until we consult with our New Zealand based staff and consider their feedback," the spokeswoman said.

Under the proposed changes, the aircraft currently servicing trans-Tasman and South Pacific services will continue to be crewed by the current pilots and cabin crew.
"We are committed to bringing competition to the Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific aviation markets - our destinations and frequency will remain unchanged.
Virgin has had links to Christchurch since its subsidiary Pacific Blue started services from the city a decade ago.
Virgin Australia is about 24 per cent owned by Air New Zealand and locked in a bitter battle with Qantas for domestic market share in Australia.
Yesterday Qantas said it will close its call centres in Brisbane and Melbourne with the loss of about 450 staff as the airline aims to hit its restructuring target of 5000 job losses as part of a A$2 billion cost saving programme for the airline which is suffering big losses..

I thought Tanner got the boot after his failed attempt to strip the Skywest boys of the duty travel requirements under their EBA? SALPA took them to court and, well, the rest is history.

Judging on how he handled that, I hope he is dealing with the VANZ boys as they'll dispatch him just as quickly as the boys from VARA!

Sled, I think the posts about Tanner are from 2013. I don't think that clown is in NZ with Virgin? I could be wrong as I'm not part of the Virgin group, but if he is in NZ I say good luck to him, he will need it!!

Yes, Tanner the c@"k is long long gone. The recent post on this thread are relating to disestablishing the Christchurch head office.

Exactly. I'm not sure why it was revisited in this topic as it has nothing to do with the contractual issues of last year. Nz crew are NOT about to strike or anything like that... :ugh:, why would we, contract is great, crews are great, working harder now but all good.
Me thinks the comment was put in here to fuel a fire that isn't even a fire. I think this was inevitable anyway, just like air nz are doing with the links. Tidy up management and consolidate.
