So it appears the Indonesian's have got their way again.
First Garuda did it and now Mandala have followed suit.
Mandala, after keeping its contract pilots on the ground for 6 months have proceeded to fire all their expat first officers citing they have enough local pilots. With the demise of both Batavia and IAT Indonesian Air Transport a lot of local pilots of varied experience and skill levels have been dropped onto the market.
The problems appear to be at a national level, with severe pressure being applied at DGCA level. Mainly due to capacity constraints and lack of a open skies agreement until 2014/2015
Apart from that you have the local patriotic Indonesian pilots general veiled hatred for ex pat pilots to contend with. Mainly due to terms and endearment no doubt.
