Hi all, I know this might have been asked earlier under different threads, but I don't want to know which one is better, rather i am more interested in the figures of both the air crafts. Like say if we talk about the A320, we have Indigo, Go air and of course now Air Asia that have placed huge orders and are doing pretty well in the market too, on the other hand if we take B737, we have jet, Spicejet and AIX.. and none of them running under profits so far. So what is the future of both the air crafts? A survey suggests that airbus has acquired almost 70% of the Indian market with firm orders and profit making airlines, do you think Boeing is a safe bet to play now for a type rating for a low hr pilot?
Thanks

A safe bet is that you do not buy a type rating yourself. You fix yourself to a machine that you may never touch again. Find a way for an airline to pay for the rating, and then you will have a job at the end of the course unless you screw up.

Even if the type rating is an ATR or DH8.

I dont think ur aware of the aviation industry of India. There is no GA in this part of the world. No recruitment has happened for cpl holders for the past couple of years but yes when it comes to rated pilots there had been hiring for both 737 as well as A320.. no regional airlines, no good scope as flight instructor, nothing.. The one and only hope for pilots here are airlines... I guess now you know what we are going through..

At this point of time it will be a wise decision to opt B737 type rating instead of A320 as per Indian job scenario though A320 is better for long run but at this point of time there are lots of guys with A320 rating and last vacancy which came and recruited guys was last year in feb by Indigo. As far as A320 is concerned Indigo wont hire again in next 6 months due to huge backlog and Go air is hiring guys from KF on regular basis.

But Jet is hiring 737 guys alot and in future they might continue to do so as they are planning to order aound 40 737's in paris air show and expansion plan is also good due to Ey coming in.

Thanx mate, u cleared a bit of my doubt though. Can you tell me which is the best place to go for 737? So that I can be considered by airlines in the interview or sim?

If you have time on your side and license then DO NOT GO for any sort of rating for atleast 1 year or so.

Reason - You will end up tied to a type that may not be flavor of that particular time or maintaining it might be too much for you courtesy Indian DGCA's ever changing rules in future.

My Advice - Play the time well & save for future upgrades of ratings and all.

Bhambri - You got pm.

At the end of the day cost is he over riding factor. The fuel efficiency of new aircraft like the 737 MAX and 320 neo are a must to remain competitive. Whether a low cost or a full service airline cost is still the most critical element. As discussed here Boeing 737 Max versus Airbus 320 neo (http://airlineconsultants.com/index.php/boeing-737-max-versus-airbus-320-ne/) the 320 on average is about 10% heavier per seat than the competing 737 variant. That is a lot of extra weight overhead and cost. I like the space in the 320, but for economics the 737 is the winner.

I understand this post is quite old from 2013 but I am looking to enter the Indian market with a A320 Rating. The roadblock is that right now Jet and IndiGo and Spice and Go are out in the market all doing well giving both aircrafts almost equal importance- the Boeing 737 and A320. From a pilots point of view its not about the equipment its about the market. Both are great aircrafts. What do you think suits the changing environment of aviation in India. Somewhere the research falls short and all one needs is an expert opinion from the most experienced.

I suggest you get rated on both. That way you are ready all the time.

is the typerating for the A320neos going to be the same as A320ceos?and is the typerating for the B737maxs going to be the same as B737ngs?

if its going to be different, you need to be careful getting a self type rating.because you dont want to be in a situation where an airline is hiring for A320neos/B737maxs and you are holding an endorsement for A320ceos/B737ngs.
