I've had reasonable results, but quite a lot is still a bit misty. Any experts out there?

I've just spent an hour or so experimenting with converting Word files to Kindle format. I already had Kindle for PC installed, but I wanted to see how it looked on the "real" thing. Emulation however, has its limits. One writer buys his own book and runs it on the real, real thing just to make sure. It seems Kindle alter the files however perfect they seem and he didn't want to trust to luck.

I downloaded Kindle Gen. Quite a big file with the reputation of needing DOS skills. However, my son showed me how to drop an HTML file onto the converter's .exe file, and it just runs. It took some minutes to convert the whole book.

Later I noticed on a forum that Kindle Preview could convert the files. I was astonished when it displayed the HTML test chapter in the blink of an eye. However, it does not save the file.

The main problem for me is the screen size. My son showed me his new-ish Motorola tablet (android) and it's quite nice. Used on e-b, but $180 with the plastic still on. Minus marks are the weight, and battery life. I'd get a paper ink one if only the screen was a reasonable size. Emulating with K-preview really shows up how restricted the screen size is.
