I'm a Canadian interested in finding a flying job in Oz. CPL, Multi-IFR, College Degree. Problem is I only have ~240 hours with ~100 PIC and I would need to convert my license and get a visa. Are there any operations down there that would consider me? If so, what would be the best place to look? I'm even willing to fly down and do a road trip if that would help (I have access to zed fares on Qantas so I can fly to anywhere in the country without worrying about spending too much on flights, car rental and finding places to sleep would be my biggest expense).

Thanks!

Hi, here is my thought. Staff travel on Qantas is almost impossible even if you are current staff on some city pairs. It's probably cheaper going full fare on Jetstar. Secondly, a lot of people on here are protectionists. They will probably not help you. Your best bet is, research how to convert your license, come to Australia, convert it at your own expense. Apply for permanent residency or a work visa as they seem to be handing them out to everyone these days. If you're willing to go out bush then you will have a job no problem but they will not pay well, nor will they pay for your conversion. good luck.

What's wrong with flying in Canada? Just wondering.

I don't know about that ... heard it's still quite competitive to get that first job in the bush.

Don't waste your time here go to USA! Because airlines have shafted pilots over there for so long they are heading toward a supply shortage of pilots at the bottom end of the industry. The pay will be disgraceful but it will be better than coming over here to fly a 210 in the middle of nowhere with no guarentees

Agree with Neville. Unless, of course, you have deep pockets.....

The cost of living here is stupendous and given your experience, a full time flying job in the bush will not put food on the table.

heard it's still quite competitive to get that first job in the bush. Those that leave never work it out, those that stay do! It's all about persistence and networking! :ok:

Well pretty much any entry level job would have you working out in the middle of nowhere for a couple of years and I would much rather do that where its sunny and warm vs cold and dark most of the year. Also largely because I would really like to live and work in another country for a year or two for that experience.

I actually wouldn't mind that either seeing as the type of flying low time pilots do there is more my cup of tea than bush flying up north here. The visa is a problem though, I'm not sure if its as easy to get one there as it would be anywhere else.

How about jump flying in oz? I was thinking that maybe a road trip from Sydney to Brisbane stopping at all the skydiving clubs along the way might yield something, or do they all want experience?

You will have a problem obtaining a permanent, work permitting Visa for Australia.

You will probably qualify for a working holiday Visa but the restrictions attached to that Visa would make it impractical to work as a full time pilot.
