At last, the UKBF has permitted the dreaded GAR (General Aviation Report) form to be an online application. You can use PC or Mac at this address (http://aopa.co.uk/Gar6/) or you can download the app for iphone/ipad at the App Store FOC - search for "Go AV8". It launched back in April and has been bedding-in - seems to work very well.

Jim
Very useful tool if Microsoft would let me download Silverlight.
Do you need this to run the app?
If so how do you get it.
Thanks

I used this app last weekend, and to my surprise it worked! (I was half expecting to see surprised border force with cuffs at the ready) :) It was probably slower than filling an a normal GAR, and the app crashed a few times, so I had to re-input all the data, but it's a step in the right direction :ok:

I used yesterday for a flight from waterford to haverfordwest, filed on line, given a receipt number. Airport had received no notification.

Chris66: it's still up to you to book PPR; if you forward the receipt that should do for most airfields.(Filing a flight plan does not constitute a request for PPR)

Down loaded the app into my I phone,
Just for info it appears not to be available for I pad?

Thanks chevvron, i did contact Haverfordwest before depating Waterford as PPR, the point is I thought that once you submitted GAR online, the system automatically notified the correct authorities including the airport.

No on the 'new' system, the destination airfield is not notified. UKBF only notify their local office and local Special Branch.
Depending on your destination, you should book PPR separately, but most airfields accept a copy of the GAR or the new GAR receipt as a PPR request. The airfield where I work has a system whereby if you e-mail it to us, it automatically gets forwarded to BF and SB, thus you can e-mail it after the airfield closes and still give the necessary 12 hours notice where it is required.

All part of the plan !, hehe actually the project has been a closely kept AOPA secret for several years. There's been several attempts from on high to ditch th GAR and revert to entering via a designated port. AOPA (or a few of us foot soldiers) decided to prove the GAR system could work in 21st century. So far we're succeeding. The various apps are not perfect but doing the job. You can go to AOPA.co.uk or goav8.net where you can download a non browser version from the latter site which will save and recall previously sent GARs Tthere is an Android app on play store which saves everything and you can add crew from your contacts. Ditto now on Apple AppStore but it is as someone said an iPhone app so you must search for uk border force ga report in iPhone apps - works fine on iPad. Still evolving but easy to use. Take no notice of one idiot review which says 'backspace deletes evérything' it doesn't but we live in the instantaneous twit generation.
As always with aviation and forums like this there are those who say pooh its rubbish. But it is a free resource courtesy of AOPA volunteers and is improving all the time

Oh and BTW when you send a gar using this system it is directed in seconds to the appropriate office INcluding police... So it is a one stop shop. That does not apply to sending a gar via email or any other so called online form.
