In this episode we discuss the world’s fastest and highest flying jet-powered aircraft ever built, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. Our guest is Col. (Ret) Richard Graham, a former SR-71 pilot. Our conversation is loosely based on his book Flying the SR-71, and we discuss the challenge of flying the SR-71. As a consequence of its unique capabilities and its engine and inlet design, the aircraft posed a number of very specific challenges on the pilot.

I have always kicked myself because in about 1991/2 there was a bookshop closing down in Southampton and they had a copy of this for around £25 IIRC, and I didn't buy it.
Now going for around £175 and upwards :{:
But not sure if I would have sold it 'cos I tend to keep books, much to the disgust of my wife;)

Whilst probably not as comprehensive in terms of SR-71 coverage, Philip Taubman's Secret Empire provides some very interesting insights into the development of the SR-71 programme alongside the U-2 and Corona projects.

Was given Sled Driver by a former USAF MSGT MX friend who had worked on a few 'special' programs at Edwards in the 60s and 70s... He had more than a tear in his eye when he gave it to me! :ok:

Ben Rich's Skunk Works is a great read too...he designed the SR's inlet system and later led the F-117 program after Kelly Johnson retired.

Richard Graham has written four excellent books on the SR, even though he only says three on the podcast

Also, anything, and I do mean anything by Paul Crickmore on the SR-71. One of the most amazing things about his copious knowledge of the aircraft is that he never was associated with the program!
