I knew a Wessex pilot who used to take his dog flying. One day, dog is sat on the pilot's seat while pilot flies from the other seat, keeping a very low profile. To an observer it looked like the dog was flying solo. There's probably a picture of it somewhere around. (I don't have one)

No one with any knowledge of dogs is going to let a retriever go solo...

But true! How wrong. Put them on their shoulder if they feel so needful!

F3WMB ... So true as they have to pee after every ten steps to save getting lost ... a tad difficult for aeronautical navigation purposes :}

Pretty sure we weren't and "the panel" confirms it :hmm:

F3WMB ... Jack Russell you say ... now please don't take this the wrong way given your background (and that of other PPRuNe members) :ok:

Always looking for a fight, will take on anything ... usually bigger than it's self and will hump anything in sight ... sounds ideal FJ material :E

You are having a *¥€>%}# laugh - is this a serious press release or was it some April Fools that I was just too tired and emotional to spot?

"Today’s graduating Reaper pilots should be justifiably proud of their achievements, having paved the way for the development of a new and exciting sub-species within the Royal Air Force"

Before you know it - they'll be dishing out gongs for Reaper pilots sat in US.
Saying that, I think they'd deserve one after all those chicken wings served up in local titty bar.....now how about Chicken Wings?

Looks like the lunatics have taken over the asylum!

There was a test pilot acquaintance (civilian) of mine who really did have his Labrador in the RHS of a C130 with him quite frequently. It was called Biggles and none of the other crew members objected as I understand he was pretty good at it. This is noduff.

the development of a new and exciting sub-species within the Royal Air Force - I say, that's a bit strong, isn't it? Is this some sort of breeding programme?

Re Dogs - I think I saw a Beagle with wings once.

Sorry BOAC, it was asking for it - cheap shot but worth the effort I thought..

Lots of dogs get awarded wings, but not so many to engineers (as they're not as quick to learn and need too many biscuits).......

Nice shot of the Goldie flying the Albert. Just goes to prove the old saying "if flying was difficult the ground crew would be doing it" ! :=

Is the Sky box on the coaming because Herc trips are so slow and tedious?

There must be many suitable badges that could be designed and awarded to recognise the very special and unique - in some cases - skills required to be a successful and competent RPAS 'pilot', unfortunately, I don't think the RAF Flying badge with a minor adjustment to the wreath colour is the answer.

Not everybody will realise the difference and a completely new badge is required, if only so as not to embarrass the RPAS guys in the longer term.

Old Duffer - no RAF flying badge entitlement declared!
