EX Qantas B737-400 ACARS

Hi Guys

The company I work for has acquired some of Qantas' ex B737-400 fitted with the Teledyne control 70-171k ACARS system.

We have the manuals from the manufacturer for this system but there are some differences in the actual software for the Qantas fit. Would any Qantas pilots have a copy of the manual specific to the Qantas fit that they would be wiling to share, a copy via email perhaps?

Most of the system is working fine but we are unable to receive ATIS/tafor/metar data when requested.
The data frequency is correct and the free text part works fine as does everything else , but the Id for the weather station only has space for 3 letters to be input and does not accept these as a valid airfields. The manufacturers manual seems to show the need to enter a 4 letter ICAO code for weather reports.

Never saw a manual for em but we used the iata code for the airport ie. three letter code; eg. LHR for london heathrow

Out of curiosity have you tried a few Aussie aerodromes with three letters - ie SYD, CNS, TSV ?

From memory the 737-400 ACARS was pretty limited. Apparently nobody supports the hardware/software/printers any more.

Haven't tried the Aussie destinations , I will do when back in work, and see if it generates any reports.

Might be worth inquiring with your bean counters, as to what capability they are paying for as well. The more money you give these people, the more capability you get.

Can confirm you always have to use IATA 3 letter codes for wx req. Have to keep an eye on the OOOI times too. What company is picking up the mighty beasts?

VA acars uses icao 4 letter codes for wx reports
