Moving contacts and backing up from apple to android device

Any tech savvy ppruner able to offer any advice on how to transfer contacts and apps from I phone to android(Samsung).

Wasnt being lazy and aware google has a lot to offer! Just wanted to get info of any gotchas or pitfalls which may make my life difficult.

I thought they were all in the 'cloud' these days? I changed phones this week and within minutes all previous apps etc were downloading onto the new one. :D
