So here's the puzzle, some old boy I work with parents got given these tail rotor blades presented to them on a plinth years ago when they used to run a hotel in the hampshire area by some RAF guys.

He would love to know what aircraft they come off, A long shot I know as these are all the photos there are. Hopefully someone has a good idea, let us know! cheers

Some triple-tail-rotored type (each with four tiny white blades), from what I see on my screen here.

(Sorry mate, couldn't resist - just getting little black boxes with white crosses in for some reason).

Might be easier to guess with some actual photos....

I think it's a stealth aircraft of some sort ...... probably a white aircraft in a snowstorm?

They are from a Wiggins Rotodyne, probably the Mk1.

They are not being very kind to you as a new poster Joel - to post pictures here you cannot just stick them on the page - they have to be "hosted" on another website. (Although you may be able to see the pictures when you look at the page, that is because they exist in a file elsewhere on your computer that we cannot access - we just see little boxes with a red cross in)

For instructions, see here -

So they'll be either Whirlwind / Wessex / Puma blades then.

Whirlwind - Rounded End-Caps
Wessex - Square-ish End-Caps
Puma - Plastic

Early puma were metal?

Joel, if you don't have a place to put them on line, feel free to send the photos to me and I'll host them and put them up here for you. :ok:

PM me if I can help or just shout "help" here and I'll find you.

Wasn’t there a story years ago about a Rockape (RAF Regiment chappie) tasked with moving/getting rid of some Puma wreckage in the Odiham area? He collected said wreckage and took it to the local scrap dealer who paid handsomely for the alloy! He got found out - but I wonder if the tail rotor blades ended up in the local pub?

extpron's story (going OT) reminds me of the Wessex main rotor blade issue which led to a bunch of Bristow Wessex 60 blades being withdrawn from use up in the wilds of north west Australia.

Some time later one of the Bristow senior managers was suitably irritated to see one polished and mounted on the wall of the local pub. Said management had believed all blades returned to UK for repair and returning to service, subsequent please explain skirted around the beer money made from the disposal of the other blades ;)

we just see little boxes with a red cross in)

I just see a blank space, as if there is nothing apart from the actual post!

Even my (1984) Puma Course gave our Hotel (the Brittania) a TR Blade with all our names on it for the good "Service" they provided over a three week period.
Got it from the Scrap Bin at Westies.

took it to the local scrap dealer

They found out when somebody saw his kids using a pilot's seat as a swing.

I believe that's fixed it, and I found out the hotel was called the International and was in southsea.
