I know its The Daily Flail, but a nice photo of 29 in action. I have to laugh at how they managed to put the "cost to the RAF" in the story. :ugh:

Fine, brave fellows, 29 Squadron. Worth every penny.

One defence source said RAF pilots flew 'very, very close' to the plane

It's an Air Defence term, Coff. In fact, GASOs actually used to say,
"INTERCEPTION OF AIRCRAFT.
1. Minimum Range: No closer than very, very close."

More importantly, what were 29 Squadron doing scrambling out of Leuchars?!

Even more, more important, what's QRA doing unarmed. Oh, maybe they're stock pictures.

Shouldn't that question have been 'More importantly, what were 29 Squadron doing scrambling on a QRA'? ;)

You know there are some old duffers about when terms like OTU are used. 30 years ago when I joined the RAF, pilots and navs went through Operational Conversion Units....

Sidevalve,
Perhaps the artical should have read "RAF TACO" to get airborne for QRA?
It would have brought back some memories.
