There is due to be an interview with an ex spitfire pilot on the One Show (BBC1) at 19:00 hrs this evening (Thursday 11 April 2013).

I do not know when abouts within the show the interview will be.

A Little bit about the pilot, Ray Racy: -

Ray Racy joined the RAF in August 1941 and served with No 154 Squadron before being posted to No 74 Squadron in March 1945.

On the 5th April 1945 his Spitfire XVI ran off of fuel over Holland and was taken POW after a brief attempt to evade.

I hope it goes well.

Be aware that the One Show is run by chimps and what starts out as a 3-5 minute piece often ends up at 30 seconds or less. A friend spent a day filming for the programme, was told it would be five minutes long and was distressed to see it cut drastically and losing much of its impact.

It's not just the One Show though. I was on a live ITV show that managed to change the slot length (again cutting it), changed the content (wasting the time of 25 men who had given up a morning as participants) and despite a promised rehearsal did the whole thing off the cuff, which showed.

The interviewer was Dan Snow.

The pilot, Ray Racy didn't apply for his medals post WW 2. He is presented them by Dan Snow.

The piece starts approximately ten minutes in to the programme - for those who wish to see the segment on catch up on demand.

The segment lasts for four minutes.

Another excuse for him to appear in a too-tight teeshirt, I suppose :*
