Interesting little effect:
Bought Linksys EA4500 router with Ethernet WAN input to use with fibre optic modem.
Pending installation of fibre optic modem, I'm using my Netgear DG834G router just as an ADSL modem with wireless off and only one Ethernet output to the Linksys which is providing wireless and Ethernet distribution.
My download speed seems to have increased by about 30%.
The only reason I can think of is that, with the Netgear operating only as a modem and relieved of other tasks, it runs faster.

When was the last time you updated the firmware on your Netgear ? :E

I can understand that you could see an improvement in wifi throughput when moving from 802.11g to 802.11n.

But it would be strange to see an increase in internet throughput via ethernet, unless you have also inadvertently removed the firewall functionality.

Ah! and Ah!

Never updated firmware.

It's Ethernet via Linksys to the desktop. Will look at firewall(s).
The Linksys should also be operating a firewall
