Does anyone know where I can get one in working order?

Surely you don't mean the phone the size of 3 house bricks in a large suitcase, such as I had as an NBC Emergency Call out team leader in about 1990 (came as an add-on to being OC Handbrake House at W....n).

Perhaps you should try Syria?

Not sure of size, it's what the aircrew plug their helmets into.

I think you're talking about the comms box used with the AR5.

I'll have a look in my attic.

Aircraft Parts Vickers VC-10 NBC Intercom Unit | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aircraft-Parts-Vickers-VC-10-NBC-Intercom-Unit-/171009744353?pt=UK_CPV_Aviation_SM&hash=item27d0f99de1)

or go and ask a friendly Squipper as we use them to test comms

Whooooooooa, a HG test cabinet. Much smaller than the three VW Beetle size test rigs for the Typhoon (that do the same job..). Coat, Hat..etc.:E

I'll keep my eyes open for an NBC unit.:ok:

What was the smaller grey box that you could run a quick Bonedome test on ? I seem to remember one of the checks outside twiddling the knob to go through headset continuity ... there was a small shrouded contact spike that allowed the mic connecting plug and socket to undergo a screen test ... IIRC you touched the solder blob on the mic lead and it a green light ... if think ... a long time ago :ok:

Coff - Electicrial test set type 376 I first used one in 1959 at RAF Barkston Heath, it could be used as a stand alone item or it was fitted into the Godfery test cabinet.

Coff

Is that picture at Waddo? If so, when?

Ancient Squipper might just recognise the Cpl

Looks like the Sqn Badge is for 44(Rhodesia) Sqn at Waddo in 63/5 along with 101 & 50 Sqns

Could be 27 Squadron - is that Jumbo green or grey?

or brown?

27 were at Scampton in the early 60's

My picture editor says grey, but that doesn't seem to clarify it.

Morning Chaps ...

I believe the image comes from "No Claims Bonus" (1961), a short RAF film about the Nuclear Deterrent ... so that would make it 27 Squadron at Scampton (Green Jumbo). The original pic was posted by PPRuNer ZH875 back in Dec 2011.

Hell of a movie! If you listen to the sound during the scenes of the Vulcan in flight, I think you'll find they borrowed the engine noise from Thunderbirds.

Couldn't find one, apart from the E-Bay one mentioned above by Ex herc squip. Thought the gents in the photo could have been from 249 Sqn, but they were low level bombers at the time and I don't supposed they had a need for partial pressure garments. Whos the Cpl?

Coff! Excellent video:ok::ok:. I`m sure one of my ancient squipper colleagues will recognise the LAC in Flying Clothing... He is quite distinctive, after all...I will not elaborate in case the PC police are watching..;)

Sorry Old Man having seen that photo before I also failed to recognize the Squippers. Did not use the G.T.C until I was posted to 213 Squadron on B(I)6 Canberra's in 1964,never had much use for one as my postings up till then were Cranwell (worked at Barkston Heath) Piston Provost-Varsity and Valetta. Syerston J/P's then Hullavington to No 2ANS back to V&Vs so it was the Testset Type 376 for me. The G.T.C might have been a monster and a venerable antique but as you know by fitting the appropiate P.E.C. it was adaptable and capable of testing the Aircrew Equipment Assemblies (AEA) of every fast-jet from the 50's to the Tornado. It must have been one of the best bargains the SE trade ever had. Yes I nearly did shed a tear as I attached the F3910 scrap label to send it to it's doom.:uhoh:
