Really Bloggsy???? Private school fees have increased by 7% again this year.

In Melbourne it's now over 17K just to send a 12 yo to Private school.

The real question, in Oz, is why are the public schools so bad that one would have to send their kid to private school? Those socialists think they can fix every other social ill, so why can't they run a decent public education system?

Allow me to answer my own question... Because big government does not work! It doesn't matter how much they swindle off the taxpayers, most in government are there because they wouldn't make it in the private sector. So, in essence, we have the inmates running the asylum.

As Buffet once said "you will not find smart people running the govenment, as they are all working in the private sector!":D

Actually ,Cxorcist, you are wrong.

Many of the public schools in Australia do equally as well if not better than the private schools. Many parents move to the regions of high performing government schools to take advantage of the high standards and cheap education on offer. There was an article in the Sydney Morning Herald only a couple of days ago about this.

Whilst it is true the worst performing schools are government schools, some famous private schools failed to make it in the top 100 schools in New South Wales last year.

My own opinion is that it is the Governments responsibility to provide education for everyone to a good standard. You can't farm everything out to the private sector. If you want more though, then you have to pay for it. Most of us here, if we want our kids educated in Australia, have to send them to private schools as they are the only ones who offer boarding. They are expensive. Really expensive

I am the product of a government school education, as is my wife and many of my friends. It hasn't been a detriment to any of them, other than not knowing the old boys secret handshake to get a private club membership. Your comments are a little offensive to the majority of Australians who attended government schools

I would say by your comments that you are American, Republican and possible even a card carrying Tea Party member. Am I right?

I agree, governments need to be kept in check on their spending, but they also have a responsibility to provide education at an affordable level. That may mean taxpayers have to cough up for it.

The HK Government also has to see they have to subsidise the ESF as a social responsibility. They too need to get involved and spend the money necessary to keep the ESF affordable.

Cheers

By the way, Australia also has a national health service, gun control ( 59 deaths vs 9369 in the USA) and a total separation of Church and State. (None of these are election issues. )We do seem to have a bunch of retards in power at the moment, but we are in a democracy. We vote them out.

NitPicker, I agree 100%. Was trying to illustrate that perhaps the OP was a pointless argument. School fees going up everywhere. The HK guys always thinking they're special.....
