Why is it I always people get sick only over weekends ?
I understand it is reserve duty and if you are called out you just go but why always on weekends, mostly UHL screwing two days out of friday, saturday or sunday, possibly the first two and lately mostly ANC.
I see a trend here; please bear with me I am very new and naive.

Best advice I've been given about roster manipulation:

Go sick smart, not often

Every time that I'm genuinely sick always seems to coincide with my number one roster request :{

That's a ****in stupid question! People can't control when they get sick, doesn't matter if it's a weekday or a weekend...

People often have big nights out on fridays and it causes a night of bad sleep. Run-down bodies are more prone to illness and thus sickrates are higher on weekends.

For those with kids who do not go out friday nights, the children sleep later than usual and thus so do the parents meaning they do not get enough sleep and are tired over the weekend. Having to entertain the children all day adds to this and then they are more prone to illness and thus sick rates go up. :}

That reminds me of this Dilbert strip (http://dilbert.com/strips/comic/1996-04-18/)

The most popular Dilbert comic strips at the official Dilbert website (http://www.dilbert.com/most_popular/strip/?Range=All+Time)

I like this one the best.

Go out and apply folks.....go on interviews.....maybe even leave. You are worth more.

Dear Broadband Circuit,

Best advice I've been given about roster manipulation

My Version - "Man Up, do your Roster and don't stitch your Mates"

( There is an obvious requirement for that statement to work though. )

The problem is the Dilbert strip doesn't apply to pilots, you can't get a 15% pay rise at the bottom of a new seniority list!

Supply and demand economics don't apply unfortunately.

White None,

Excellent post.

Some advice I was given on joining....

If you go sick at Xmas or New Year, you had better be dead!

CNY is the worst time to be on reserve.

Bull.

If I'm genuinely unfit for duty I'll report as such and it doesn't matter what day of the year it happens to be on.

Too bad if it happens to be on Xmas, them's the breaks.

Agreed. If you're sick, you're sick but if you wanna play Golf (e.g.), you're not - and we know there are some......
