Congratulations all ...

It would seem that RAF Lossiemouth tops the RAF charts for physical fitness and everyone who took the test today passed !

Mind you don't have too many beers to celebrate :}

All that practice for long distance running south for when it becomes RAF Scotland.

Makes a change from 10 years ago when the Staish at Lossie was so disgusted by the poor fitness on stn that he sent an e-mail to all addressees telling them to try harder! It went something like:

"When I did my RAFFT earlier today I was shocked and extremely disappointed that, by level 8 (approx - can't quite remember!), the only people still running were me (aged 42) and the PEdO (51). Over half those taking the test failed, and the others made it to the minimum level required to pass before stopping. I am appalled at the attitude towards fitness and preparation for ops blah blah blah" etc etc, and finished with direction to the execs to cancel leave until fitness improved or some such bolleaux.

A clear indication that the RAF is much better in 2013 than ever before...

Well done Lossie! Now please add all the sicknotes, exempt etc.....

KPI's are only as good as the data used and can manipulated to show what you need them to show.

Not many years ago I took over an Ops Support Flight at a certain MOB and one of my monthly jobs was to submit the monthly KPI's. We had a large number of personnel exempt for reasons ranging from injury through to pregnancy and everything in between. Out of our 'fit' personnel we had one RAFFT failure on remedial.

Counting the ACTUAL Strength of the flight our RAFFT Pass KPI was 45% whereas it was 90% if I only counted those able to take the RAFFT. I duly reported the lower figure as I figured it gave a TRUE indication of the flights ability to undertake it's operational role and the number of personnel able to deploy OOA etc..

A couple of days later I was summoned to OC Ops to explain why our RAFFT KPI had dropped and was told to amend and resubmit the figures.

It may not be widespread practice and while our low figure was probably exceptional, I wonder how many other sections, flights, squadrons, wings etc... do the same and what the true figure would be if everyone was counted?

It will be all those Jock Pies, reports out today point out processed meats are killing one in seventeen people, therefore logically eating Jock Pies is putting you out of the top sixteen none survivor category :D

Well done all and have an extra pie tonight, you know it statistically makes sense

:p

Nutty, I want you to be the next head of the Office for National Statistics. :ok: But not in charge of calculating weight and balance. :(

It's all down to porridge oats (with no milk and lots of salt) and training in Kilts minus underwear.

Does wonders for the constitution so I'm told by an old Scottish friend who refers to us lot down south as Sassenachs - whatever that means. Should I be offended by the term?

Should I be offended by the term? I'm sure it's just a quaint term of endearment.

I believe the origin of Sasanach is a Gaelic word for Saxon ... :8

What about 'Chuchter' (sp)? Should a highland Jock be offended by that term; or is it endearment?

...is the word for someone who lives further north than you do. I, to someone from the central belt, am a teuchter. To me, anyone from Wick or out to the west in the islands, is a teuchter. Simple really.

It wasn't the Staish and the PEdO ten years ago, it was actually the Staish (42) and StanF (aged 37). The dropout rate was truly appalling, many of them retrying the test post remedial training, but still failing miserably. As the runners dropped out, we 2 alone kept going until the 18year old 'beep test' standard, at which point Harry walked out without another word. The average age of the other runners was in the low to mid 20s - but you've never seen bigger guts (and m'oobs).

Delighted things have improved somewhat since:D.

reports out today point out processed meats are killing one in seventeen people

I confidently predict that the remaining 16 out of 17 will have a 100% mortality rate.

Well that's killed off that arguement, however, eating those pies means you are in the lower risk category as only 1 out of the 17 that died ate them. Got to improve your odds :O

Having read that lot, I'm relieved I left Lossie (and the Mob) when I did, in 1983.

Fitness tests? Our idea of fitness tests was to see how quickly we got into the harbour as the boats were coming in. Fresh fish, sadly only a distant dream nowadays in Oz.:ok:
