I am a CPL holder whose Class 1 medical certificate expired a few weeks ago, although I do have a valid Class 2. Not having flown for some time, I will need a profiency check before the end of this month to keep my SEP valid. My question is do I need to renew my Class 1 in order to take the proficiency test, or would the Class 2 cover me?

I think that you need to show the medical only to the CAA, and that you don't have to have a valid medical for the check.
I don't think that you need more of a class 2 to revalidate/renew a SEP, even on a CPL. Answers would be in CAP804 I hope.

You need a valid medical for the check but a expired class 1 with valid class 2 rights will do for the test.

You will require a valid class 1 to apply for your EASA CPL which is the only license they can issue now. To note there are more experence requirments than the JAR CPL, you need the night experence to be able to hold a EASA CPL.
